The first week of June is an important one for the green roof and rooftop landscape sector, with the GRO Conference taking place in Wales alongside World Green Roof Day.
At Zoontjens UK, we are proud members and supporters of the Green Roof Organisation and the important work GRO continues to do across standards, advocacy, competency and collaboration within the living roof sector.
As our cities face increasing challenges around overheating, biodiversity, stormwater and wellbeing, rooftops are becoming far more than simply technical spaces hidden above buildings. Increasingly, they are part of the environmental solution.
Green roofs, blue roofs, rooftop landscapes and accessible podium environments all have a vital role to play in creating healthier, cooler and more resilient urban environments. For many years, we have championed the idea of the rooftop as the “next landscape” , an extension of the public realm that can support both people and nature side by side.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in GRO and the wider industry working to push rooftop thinking forward. We look forward to seeing the continued growth of living roofs and rooftop landscapes across the UK and beyond.
