Project

Hart van de
Waalsprong
Nijmegen

Hart van de Waalsprong is the new residential and shopping center of the development area in Nijmegen-Noord. Area developers AM and VanWonen collaborated on the first energy-neutral shopping center in the Netherlands and 500 owner-occupied and rental homes. Parking is, of course, an important aspect in such a new area, and careful consideration was given to both residents and visitors, including the use of rooftop car parks.

ENERGY-NEUTRAL, CLIMATE-ADAPTIVE, AND NATURE-INCLUSIVE

Hart van de Waalsprong includes approximately 500 owner-occupied and rental homes, spread across multiple building sections. Each section is named after flora, fauna, or landscape elements in the Waal river basin. The first phase consists of buildings A through E: Alver, Bliek, Crevas, Donk, and Elft. Phase 2 continues with Front, Grutto, Hosta, and Iberis. The commercial part of the new district comprises almost 12,000 square meters with about 25 shops, restaurants, and facilities. The construction was managed by several contractors, including Dura Vermeer, Janssen De Jong, and Hendriks Bouw en Ontwikkeling.

Diverse parking options

Although cycling and bicycle parking are encouraged in Hart van de Waalsprong, there are also plenty of parking options for (electric) cars. Residents park in their private parking spaces in the enclosed courtyard, in a designated spot in the parking garage of the Bliek building, or on the parking decks of the Donk or Elft buildings. Visitors park along the public street, in the Bliek parking house, or also on the parking deck of the Elft building.

Parking on the roof

To provide ample parking space, both building D and E are designed with a rooftop car park for either residents or visitors. On the ground floor of these blocks are commercial spaces. Above them are luxury apartments, with parking facilities in the middle on the roof of the shops. Area developers AM and VanWonen, together with Dura Vermeer, chose the Pardak®110 system based on previous positive experiences, covering a total of approximately 7,500 square meters.

Green decoration

The rooftop car park is beautifully decorated in keeping with the area, featuring green-filled planters, small trees, and canopies, making it a multifunctional inner garden.
