Rijnvicus is the social and sustainable development company for several Dutch cities: Alphen aan den Rijn, Kaag en Braassem, and Nieuwkoop. They assist individuals who need extra support in returning to the labour market. Sustainability is also a key priority for them. Their building, constructed in 2003, features a large rooftop car park. After nearly 25 years, the deck required a thorough and sustainable renovation, and they enlisted Zoontjens for the job.
Circularity
The rooftop car park, covering more than 8,500 square metres, was originally installed using the Pardak®90 system. Both the municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn and Rijnvicus wanted to make the renovation as circular as possible, with the additional requirement that the deck should always remain at least partially usable. These goals were perfectly achievable with the Pardak® system.
Reusing slabs and insulation
The project was tackled in phases, each one following the same process: the existing Pardak®90 slabs were removed in small sections and temporarily stored, and the underlying insulation was similarly removed. The roofer then applied new roofing materials to the exposed areas. The insulation was reinstalled (or replaced where necessary), and the Pardak® system was put back in place.
Precision work
The slabs were returned to their exact original positions, ensuring that the lines on the deck remained consistent. New bumpers and speed reducers were also installed to prevent speeding and extend the life of the deck. The entire project was completed in three phases.
Solar panels
Another project underway on the upper roof of the Rijnvicus building is the installation of a large solar panel park in the municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn. To ensure proper connection of all the solar panels to the inverters, cables were laid beneath the parking deck system—an additional benefit of the renovation and the modular parking deck system.
