The tenth floor of the Embassy Gardens in southwest London is the home to the world’s ultimate bridge: a bridge and swimming pool in one! A crystal-clear, 25 metre-long water-filled pool that joins two apartment blocks, 35 metres above the ground. This Sky Pool is the world’s first swimming pool bridge!
Remarkable roof connection
Embassy Gardens was designed by HAL Architects, in collaboration with Arup Associates. The project comprises a total of 872 apartments, both for rental and sale, spread over three interconnected buildings. The most remarkable connection is located on the tenth floor, where two exclusive, luxurious rooftop terraces are joined by the Sky Pool. The bridge was built and designed by the award-winning firm Eckersly O’Callaghan.

Collaboration for the rooftop terraces
For the exclusive rooftop terraces, the decision was taken to lay ceramic slabs, entirely in accordance with the luxurious look and feel. The laying of the terrace was a collaboration between Atlas Concorde (slabs), Zoontjens (roofing systems) and In-Ex Landscapes (implementation). The chosen format for ceramic slabs is 90×45 cm, laid in traditional stretcher bond. To ensure a perfectly level rooftop terrace, we supplied the adjustable slab carriers combined with the 3-way fixplate lock. The result is a guaranteed stable and secure walking surface with clean lines.
No fear of heights
Those who consider swimming a bridge too far can also make the crossing via the footbridge. This too is finished with the same system. The entire area covers almost 500 square metres. Who dares?
