The Green
Roof Project
Milton Keynes

The Green Roof Project in Milton Keynes is a showcase roof demonstrating the potential of green infrastructure in urban areas. Next to that it is also a community project, creating green jobs, providing food for the café in the building, training opportunities and connecting residents.

Encourage to use the roof

With The Green Roof Project, initiator Brigman & Bridgman want to persuade people to create a green roof to, because if you take biodiverse space from the ground, you should replace it on the roof, Indeed, this has been enshrined in law with Environment Act 2021. But they also want to give the future generation all the work options that are available with the transforming roof space today. This project is a perfect example of improving the environment while at the same time creating green jobs and educational opportunities.

Crowdfunding

The Green Roof Project shows the beauty, the usefulness and the fun of having a green roof. To actually make this project happen, a very successful crowd funding initiative was set up. Next to that suppliers from the industry donated with materials and products. Zoontjens was so impressed by this project that we were keen to contribute products that will make the roof even more attractive.

Solar and ceramic paving

Zoontjens donated our ceramic paving system and our walkable solar paving system. The slabs are attached to the underlying fixplate lock system with removable corner sections. These elements fix and lock the slabs in place, but keeps the underlying roofing layer accessible if and when needed. Our products were installed by one of our partners,  City Roofscapes.

A real show case

With these products The Green Roof project becomes a mixed-use roof, showing all the possibilities and opportunities. Eventually there will be bees, vegetables, storm water attenuation, energy generation, social well-being and relaxation areas. A real show case of what can be achieved on roof space!
