Wassenaar

The Van der Valk Hotel Den Haag-Wassenaar in the Netherlands has undergone a significant expansion, renovation, and sustainability upgrade. New rooftop terraces are also part of the renovation.

RENOVATION, REFURBISHMENT AND NEW CONSTRUCTION

Van der Valk’s construction project comprises three components: the renovation of the existing main building, the refurbishment of the existing block of rooms, and the construction of a new section with an underground parking facility and 134 rooms. This substantially increases the hotel’s capacity. Sustainability plays a major role in the renovation and expansion. The new construction will meet the requirements for the BREEAM Outstanding certificate, while the existing parts will receive the Excellent designation according to the BREEAM In-Use methodology.

PATTERNED ROOFTERRACES

Rooftop terraces have been renewed or newly constructed in three locations. Dreen®Ceramica in the Regent Silver color and 90×45 size was chosen for their installation. Two of the terraces feature a distinctive pattern created by laying two tiles horizontally followed by one tile vertically, producing a unique effect.

SECURE YET DISMOUNTABLE TERRACES

To install terraces with Dreen®Ceramica, we use the fixplate lock. This element has dismountable corner pieces onto which the tiles are attached. This ensures that the tiles are securely in place but can be easily removed if necessary. In this case, fixplate locks with 2, 3, and 4 compartments were used to achieve the desired pattern.

BEAUTIFUL FINAL RESULT

The overall renovation of the Van der Valk hotel is nearly complete. Now, we eagerly await favorable weather conditions, so guests can fully enjoy the terraces. Alex Luiten, general manager, expresses his satisfaction: “I am very pleased with the tile’s appearance in combination with the pattern. Due to the substantial surface area, we considered it important to apply a pattern to break the lines. I look forward to welcoming our guests to our sunny terrace starting this spring.”
