Nature's Pride, Maasdijk, the Netherlands

Nature’s Pride is one of the Netherlands’ largest importers of exotic fruit and vegetables. The business has had a new distribution and processing centre built in Maasdijk. This new facility, based on a design by architects firm Paul de Ruiter, is built according to the design principle of energy neutrality, with a huge reduction in CO2 emission levels. The objective was to achieve BREEAM-NL certification, and on 14 June 2014, the BREEAM-NL Excellent certificate was indeed awarded.

On this new building, with a total floor area of 40,000 m², a rooftop car park of more than 7800 m² has been installed. The decision was taken to locate the parking facilities on the roof to avoid taking up additional land.

The rooftop car park was laid with Pardak® 110 slabs from Zoontjens. In addition to the fact that the Pardak® system absorbs any movements in the substructure, distributes the forces generated by moving vehicles, reduces contact noise and guarantees optimum water discharge, it also perfectly ties in with sustainable building practice. Our Pardak® slabs are manufactured at an ISO 14001-certified production location. Wherever possible, we also make use of recycled raw materials and the majority of system components can again be recycled at the end of their lifetime. Furthermore, if well-maintained, the Pardak® system has a proven lifecycle of at least 30 years.
